Pediatric Migraine

A pediatric migraine is a type of severe headache that affects children and adolescents. Just like adult migraines, pediatric migraines are often characterized by intense throbbing or pulsing pain, typically on one side of the head. These migraines can also be accompanied by symptoms such as:

1. Nausea or vomiting
2. Sensitivity to light (photophobia) and sound (phonophobia)
3. Dizziness or vertigo
4. Visual disturbances like seeing flashes of light or zigzag patterns (aura)

Children may have shorter migraine attacks than adults, sometimes lasting a few hours, but the symptoms can still be very disruptive. Pediatric migraines can be triggered by stress, lack of sleep, dehydration, certain foods, or hormonal changes, particularly during adolescence.

Treatment for pediatric migraines often involves a combination of lifestyle changes, avoiding known triggers, and in some cases, medications prescribed by a healthcare professional. Identifying and managing the condition early can help minimize the impact on a child’s quality of life.
